We recommend waiting at least 7-10 days before driving or parking on your newly paved driveway. Especially if the temperature stays above 70 degrees at night as it tends to do in the mid-late Summer months. You also want to avoid placing sharp objects on the new pavement like bike kick-stands or folding table/chair legs that can create a hole or indentation in the soft pavement after a hot day.
Asphalt is a mixture of aggregates, binder, and filler that is commonly used as a paving material for roads, driveways, and parking lots.
To prevent the edges of your new driveway from cracking and to avoid a possible trip hazard we recommend backfilling the edges of your new pavement with top soil until it is even with the top of the new asphalt.
